Castel Becomes Signatory to the Collection Technology Open Standard

BEVERLY, MASS. – December 2009 – Castel, Inc., a leading supplier of contact center solutions to the collections industry, wants to provide its users easy access to their data. That is why Castel has decided to become a signatory to the Collection Technology Open Standard (CTOS), a best practices document that de- fines what it means for collection technology to be open. Such open software protects the rights of software users, enhances innovation, and generally lowers the cost of doing business, as measured in both time and dollars. CollectionTechnology.net, a leading social network for the collection industry, helped create the criteria to define open software, along with its Board comprised of vendors and users.

Paul Maggioli, EVP Development and Operations, said supporting the CTOS is Castel’s attempt to help foster the growth of open collaboration between its technology and its users. “Castel has always worked to provide its clients with open software systems that provide the integration and access to data that are so crucial to today’s collections operations,” said Maggioli. “We know our systems are components of an overall infrastruc- ture and providing access to data is paramount in all of our designs.”

The CTOS itself offers 10 guidelines and specifications that define what it means for collection technology to be open. In short, the CTOS Board defines open as software that gives users ample access to their data, easily communicates with other software platforms, and allows for customization by users. To earn signatory status, a user or vendor must subscribe to at least seven of the 10 suggested criteria.

“Users don’t want closed proprietary software systems that add costs in terms of dollars and time or stifles in- novation,” said JJ Hornblass, a CTOS board member and executive editor of CollectionTechnology.net. “They want software that allows them the freedom to pursue their own IT objectives, without the hindrance of data locked into a particular system or service.”
